The Global Distance Project is CedarCreek's own endurance marathon training program that
combines the challenge of the marathon with the challenge of improving the human condition
around the world. Whether you are interested in running the full or half-marathon or running as
part of a five-person relay team, you'll receive coaching, participate in group training runs and
experience unparalleled race day support as the team tackles the Detroit Marathon next October.
At the same time you'll help raise funds to build a thriving, self-sustaining community for families
and orphans who have been impacted by the HIV/AIDS crisis in Honduras. Every penny of every
dollar donated to the Global Distance Project goes directly to improving the quality of life in
Choluteca.
Our Goal:
To see 200 runners participate (between the various runs)
To raise $250,000 for Casa Hogar Vida and the HIV/AIDS affected children in Honduras
No matter what distance you choose, the Detroit Marathon presents a huge challenge, but you
won't face it alone. The Detroit Marathon is consistently ranked as one of the top races in North
America. With a unique course crossing the U.S./Canadian border twice and great musical
entertainment along the way, there's no end to the excitement of running this race! As part of the
Global Distance Project you'll benefit from clinics on running form, develop new friendships during
group training runs and experience unparalleled race day support. The friendships, the training,
the race, and then best of all...crossing the finish line will surely change your life! All for a great
cause, as you help to build a healthy, safe, Christ centered community for orphans and families
affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Adults testing positive for HIV/AIDS in Honduras are shunned; discriminated against with no hope
of employment. Their children are also discriminated against and often left with no parents, no
home and no hope for the future. We have the unique opportunity to show the love of Christ to an
entire community decimated by this hideous virus. The vision is to build a thriving, self-sustaining
community for these families and orphans where they can come to know the love of Christ in a
safe and healthy environment.
Can I do this?
Whether you are a seasoned runner looking for a PR or a couch potato looking for a new
challenge; as a member of the Global Distance Project you'll have help every step of the way.
From assisting with the development of your training plan to clinics on running form we will be
there to help. You'll build new relationships as you build your endurance during supported group
runs and activities. And you'll have help with fund raising with a personalized website, sample
letters, fund raising ideas and a sponsorship clinic. There will also be plenty of support on race
day with a private gear check area, private port-a-pots for GDP participants only and tons of
CedarCreekers to cheer you on all the way to the finish!
